Segeln Dubrovnik

Sailing Nations offers enthusiastic travelers a croatia sailing holiday with stops in many different cities and towns. Dubrovnik, Croatia is one of the places that they sail to and once you see the old town for the first time, you will know why Sailing Nations chose this city as one of their croatia sailing destinations.

Dubrovnik is located on the Adriatic Sea and is filled with marbled streets and baroque buildings. The Old City of Dubrovnik is known as the Pearl of the Adriatic and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. The Old City had been damaged by an earthquake back in 1667, but the people were able to preserve some of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains.

Dubrovnik has a patron saint of the city and that is Saint Blaise (Sveti Vlaho). Every February 3rd, the city celebrates Saint Blaise with several days of parades and events. Another festival in the city is the Dubrovnik Summer Festival which takes place over the course of 45 days and includes plays, concerts and games.

The Arboretum Trsteno dates back to 1492 and is the oldest arboretum in the entire world. Dubrovnik also has the third oldest pharmacy in all of Europe. It opened back in 1317 and is located at the Little Brothers monastery. A few of the important monuments in the city are the Sponza Palace, Rector’s Palace, St. Saviour Church and the Franciscan Church and Monastery. The most loved church in the city is St. Blaise’s church, which was built in the 18th century and the Baroque Cathedral has a collection of Saint Blaise relics. The most important piece in the collection is a gold plated arm, leg and skull of St. Blaise. Visitors are still able to see Dubrovnik’s original cathedral, even though it is now a baroque replacement version. The original cathedral had been destroyed back in 1667. The altars are exquisite and one of them is made from violet marble.

Anyone who does a Croatia Sailing Holiday in Dubrovnik needs to walk around the city walls and forts. The climb and walk itself can be slightly difficult, but the views that you will see from the top are worthwhile. In order to see more panoramic views from above, there is a cable car that you can take from north of the city walls to Mt Srd.

Dubrovnik is a fascinating city, whether you are interest in history, architecture and culture or not. There are so many amazing things to see and do and Sailing Nations can help you with planning a perfect croatia sailing vacation.
